Seadoo Fun

Everything about Seadoos screams summer fun. The imagery evoked includes, the warms summer sun, refreshing lakes and rivers, good friends, late afternoon BBQs, laughter, thrills and excitement. The anticipation of spending a good day on the water with close family and friends maintains us during the work week. Summer weekends are a time of celebration and there is no better way to celebrate than with good friends and Seadoos.

Seadoos were introduced to the marketplace in the early 1960s by the Bombardier Company. The Bombardier Company was already famous for making the Ski-doo brand of snowmobile. After securing their success in the snowmobile market, they began musing about bringing a product to the market that would resemble their famous Ski-doo product but would run on water. It only made sense to apply the same technology to a winter time and summer time recreational vehicle.

This Canadian company teamed up with an American inventor and set to work on developing a water snowmobile. In approximately 1962, the first Bombardier Seadoo was launched. As you can see from the pictures above, these machines mimicked Ski-doo snowmobiles. Both machines were painted yellow and black and had the distinctive black slash on the side. They also both shared identical chrome handle bars.

The first Seadoos were not without issues. The body of the machine and some of the metal components were prone to rapid corrosion. The corrosion was particularly bad for those Seadoos used in salt water. Also, the engines could not be properly cooled in the tight fitting engine compartment and were subject to regular bouts of overheating. Not to be defeated, Bombardier released an update version of the Seadoo in the following year. The updated and improved second model fixed some of the outstanding problems related to the first model. However, the second model also had significant problems. After producing Seadoos for two years, the Bombardier Company mothballed the idea. Their vision of a snowmobile for the water stayed mothballed for over twenty years.

In the mid-1980s, the Bombardier Company relaunched Seadoos and for the past twenty years new Seadoo products have been brought to the market place. There are now one person Seadoos, two-person Seadoos, Seadoo Seascooter water scooters and Seadoo boats. There is a Seadoo water product of every size and for every budget.

The Seadoo brand has also been applied to many other products such as life jackets and Seadoo covers.  The brand name can also be found on t-shirts and sunglasses.

The Seadoo brand name is now as famous as the Ski-doo brand name.  In fact, both brands names are so well known that each name can be used interchangably with the underlying product.  For example snowmobiles are often called Ski-doos while all PWCs are often simply called Seadoos.

Outdoor recreational products often provide a great way to spend time with family and friends while enjoying the beautiful outdoors.  Consider the fun you might have with a brand new Seadoo.  And don't forget to buy the Seadoo covers.
